We hope that you are keeping safe and well.
As COVID-19 continues to impact the performing arts industry and we adapt to whatever our ‘new normal’ might look like, we hope that you are taking time to look after yourself and each other. Our health and wellbeing is our best resource, and in times of difficulty and uncertainty, we need to consciously practice more self-care, not less.
When there’s so much going on around us, keep hold of the simple strategies. Get a good night’s sleep, exercise, eat well, engage in something you find enjoyable, stay connected with your friends, family and peers, and give yourself a break – whether it be mindfulness, meditation, or reading a book, your mind and body needs time to recharge.
You can always seek help for your mental health and wellbeing. Don’t ever worry that you’re not upset enough – it’s never too early to reach out. It is completely confidential and free of charge to utilise the Support Act Wellbeing Helpline – a 24/7 phone counselling service. Simply phone 1800 959 500 to speak with an experienced, qualified clinician about any aspect of your mental health and wellbeing. You can make an appointment, or request to speak to someone immediately.
We are thrilled to share that the Federal Government announced a funding package that enables the Support Act Wellbeing Helpline to be extended to all arts workers. So, if you have a peer working in another sector, for example, film or the visual arts, let them know that the Support Act Wellbeing Helpline is there for them, too.
We have been working behind the scenes to build more resources, ensure we are connecting our community to professional support, and to digitise content for easy access. In the past few weeks, we have seen a big jump in the number of visits to our website – we know these are intense times for everyone in the performing arts industry, and we are working as fast as we can to develop resources, initiatives and programs to support you.
Wishing you good health and creativity,
The team at Arts Centre Melbourne
